K-9 Control Panel
One of the great things about this project is that my kids have been really excited to see K-9 come together. And they really, really want to help in his construction. Unfortunately, most of the work has involved tools like miter saws, nail guns or “really stinky” spray paint…. so there hasn’t been a lot for them to do. K-9’s control panel turned out to be a great way to get them involved.
It started with a quick trip to RadioShack with my daughter. We spent some time picking out an array of different colored buttons, rocker switches and toggle switches, some of which will light up. (Yes, I know K-9 is supposed to have 12 rectangular push buttons. I couldn’t find them and decided to have some fun. I also really wanted buttons that could be used, rather than just a light up panel.)
I cut the panel and drilled the appropriate mounting holes, then let the kids insert the buttons and screw in the locking nuts. They had a great time just playing with all the switches. Here’s how it looks:
